Carnival Costume Designers

On Labor Day, more than 3 million people gather in Brooklyn, to celebrate the West Indian American Day Parade. The largest carnival outside Brazil, just about every Caribbean island has a band in the dancing procession down Eastern Parkway.

Costume bands with as many as 300 people, called mas bands, strut their stuff in themed costume presentations that are the visions of the mas camps that meet all year round, planning and sketching and constructing. These are the artists who create the dazzling costume concoctions.
